I believe
Use this to say 'I believe so' or 'I think so' when confirming something or agreeing with a suggestion.
Means 'I think that...'. It's very similar to 'creo que' and often used interchangeably for expressing opinions.
Means 'It seems to me that...'. This is a slightly softer way to offer an opinion, as if making an observation.
Means 'I suppose so'. Use this when you are less certain but are assuming something is true.
Does the bus arrive at five? —Yes, I believe so.
I believe this is the best movie of the year.
It seems to me that it's going to rain later.
I think that it's a very good idea to travel to Colombia.
The phrases 'Yo creo', 'Creo que sí', and 'Pienso que' are universally understood and used across all Spanish-speaking countries.
While 'creo' is standard, you might hear 'pienso' used slightly more often for expressing a thought-out opinion compared to some parts of Latin America.
It's very common to hear 'Para mí que...' to introduce an opinion, meaning 'For me...' or 'In my opinion...'. For example, 'Para mí que el restaurante ya cerró.' (I think the restaurant is already closed.)
'Creo que sí' is extremely common in daily conversation. A very informal, slang alternative is 'Me late que...', which means 'I have a feeling that...'
Using 'creer en' instead of 'creer que'. — Use 'creer en' to believe IN a person, a concept, or a god (e.g., 'Creo en ti' - I believe in you). Use 'creer que' to believe THAT something is true (e.g., 'Creo que es tarde' - I believe that it's late). Saying 'Creo en es tarde' is incorrect.
Saying 'Soy creo' to mean 'I believe'. — In Spanish, 'creer' is the main verb. You don't need the verb 'ser' (to be). The 'I' is already part of the conjugated verb 'creo'. The correct form is simply 'Yo creo' or just 'Creo'.
Confusing 'pensar en' with 'pensar que'. — 'Pensar en' means 'to think about' someone or something (e.g., 'Pienso en mis vacaciones' - I'm thinking about my vacation). 'Pensar que' is used to express an opinion, just like 'creer que'. Don't say 'Pienso en es una buena idea'; say 'Pienso que es una buena idea'.
