Going to the gym, or 'gimnasio', is a popular activity across Latin America and a fantastic place to practice your Spanish in a real-world setting. Whether you're signing up for a membership, asking for help, or just making small talk while you work out, knowing the right vocabulary is essential. This list covers the high-frequency words you'll need to talk about your workout, the equipment you use, and your fitness goals. Many of these words are helpful cognates, meaning they look and sound similar to their English counterparts. Words like 'rutina' (routine), 'músculo' (muscle), and 'entrenar' (to train) will feel instantly familiar. This makes learning gym vocabulary a great confidence booster for A2 learners. While most terms are standard, keep in mind that some equipment names can vary slightly by country. For example, a treadmill might be a 'cinta de correr' or a 'caminadora'. However, the core vocabulary for actions and concepts is widely understood everywhere.
